One of Barack Obama’s ex-girlfriends who dated him in the early 1980s recently broke her silence to reveal some secrets about the president he probably didn’t want us to find out.
According to The Telegraph, former girlfriend Genevieve Cook sat down with Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss to give him previously unseen materials on Obama. Cook provided Maraniss with journal entries from the time she dated Obama that paint a very interesting portrait of the man who would one day become our predient.
In a journal entry from February of 1984, Cook, who dated Obama for over a year, wrote that in their relationship, “the sexual warmth is definitely there – but the rest of it has sharp edges.” Today, she remembers “feeling anger” at Obama, whose “warmth can be deceptive.”
“Though he speaks sweet words there is also that coolness,” she recalled.
Cook dated Obama from the end of 1983 until they separated in 1985. The former girlfriend described a 22 year-old Obama in her journal as someone wearing “a comfy T-shirt depicting buxom women”, and who was marked by the smells of “running sweat, Brut spray deodorant, smoking, eating raisins, sleeping, breathing.”
Maraniss described Obama’s relationship with her as the “deepest romantic relationship of his young life.” Cook cites Obama’s “emotional scarring” as the reason for their breakup, since it made it difficult to get close to him.
