The frontrunner for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s Vice President has emerged this week as a source within his campaign confirmed that he is in daily communication with the potential running mate.
According to Western Journalism, former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is the current frontrunner to become Trump’s Vice President. He fits both the criteria Trump said he was looking for in that he is someone with political experience, and someone familiar with the ways of Capitol Hill.
“They talk every day,” a source in Trump’s campaign told the National Review, adding that Gingrich e-mails Trump, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and campaign manager Corey Lewandowski “countless times a day.” The source said that Gingrich’s influence over the campaign is already “widespread.”
“Right from the minute I joined we were told that Newt will have his hand in every major policy effort,” one Trump aide said. “So one of the things I do when I’m researching or writing anything, in addition to looking at what Trump has said about anything, I look at what Newt has said.”
Earlier this month, Gingrich told Fox News that though he is busy with film and book projects, if Trump asked him to be his running mate, he “could be lured to a new path.”
