Donald Trump may be the presumptive Republican nominee, but he has struggled to gain the support from the members of the GOP establishment. That’s why it came as a big surprise this week when former Vice President Dick Cheney endorsed him last Friday.
According to Right Wing News, Cheney told CNN Special Correspondent Jamie Gangel that he has always supported Trump and that he will continue to do so in the general election. This came just after former President George W. Bush, who Cheney served under, Republican convention where Trump will be formally nominated. George H.W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney will also be skipping the convention as well to show their disdain for Trump.
Sen. Lindsey Graham revealed on Friday that he will be sitting this election out because he can’t bring himself to vote for either Trump or Hillary Clinton. He then admitted that he was a “little bit” surprised to hear that Cheney was endorsing Trump.
“Dick Cheney’s a great man. We see the world a lot alike when it comes to foreign policy. I can understand when people want to support the nominee of the Republican Party. I would like to be able to do that, but I just can’t,” Graham said. “Maybe I’m the outlier here. Probably am. There’ll be Democrats who can’t support Hillary Clinton, and you know some of them will hold their nose and vote for her. Some of them will do it enthusiastically.”
We applaud Cheney for endorsing Trump publicly, and we think all other Republicans should do the same. It is time to put all this nonsense behind us and do whatever it takes to ensure Hillary won’t make it to the White House. SHARE this story if you agree!
