Hollywood is currently in shock after legendary actor and comedian Garry Shandling suddenly passed away on Thursday afternoon after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 66 years-old.
According to Daily Mail, friends who spoke to Shandling Thursday morning said he sounded fine and perfectly healthy. He was still alive when he arrived at a Los Angeles hospital later on, but he died there a few hours ago.
Known for creating and starring in shows like It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and The Larry Sanders Show, Shandling was one of the most popular entertainers in Hollywood. Earlier this week, he retweeted a photo of himself with comedian Kathy Griffin and actor Bob Odenkirk.
Griffin had tweeted the photo on Monday along with the caption, “So @GarryShandling & I had to call Saul @mrBobOdenkirk.”
Numerous stars have already taken to Twitter to honor Shandling.
“Goodbye Gary Shandling thank you for your kindness and your generosity and for making me laugh so damn much,” wrote Amy Schumer.
“Garry Shandling was as kind and generous as he was funny and that is saying a lot,” said Jimmy Kimmel.
Sandra Bernhard wrote, “If it’s true I am heartsick @GarryShandling has died? One in a million brilliant people say it’s not so.”
Seth MacFarlane said, “Saddened over Garry Shandling. He was a comedy idol of mine. He leaves behind the greatest single-camera comedy of all time.”
Rest in peace, Garry Shandling. Thanks for all the laughs!
