The GOP establishment is currently in panic mode after watching presidential frontrunner Donald Trump dominate the polls for months. Members of the elite know that they will have no control over Trump if he wins, so they are now trying to launch a desperate, last-ditch plan to keep him out of the White House.
According to The Political Insider, a report has just leaked revealing that Republican and “conservative movement” activists are preparing to meet privately in Washington, D.C. to decide which candidate should run as a third-party candidate. They are looking for someone to be what they are calling a “true conservative” challenger.
The meeting is being organized by insiders like Bill Wichterman, who was President George W. Bush’s liaison to the conservative movement, Bob Fischer, a South Dakota businessman and longtime conservative convener, and Erick Erickson, the outspoken Trump opponent and conservative activist who founded RedState.com.
“Please join other conservative leaders to strategize how to defeat Donald Trump for the Republican nomination,” the three wrote in an invitation obtained by POLITICO that recently went out to various conservative leaders, “and if he is the Republican nominee for president, to offer a true conservative candidate in the general election.”
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, two days after Super Tuesday when Trump is expected to win an unbeatable number of delegates for the convention.
