It has just been revealed that former United Nations Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali has died at the age of 93.
According to Headline Politics, Ghali grew up in Cairo, Egypt and served as the 6th U.N. Secretary General from 1992-1996. He passed away at a hospital in his native city of Cairo.
The Security Council held a moment of silence on Tuesday immediately after his death was announced by Venezuela’s U.N. Ambassador Rafael Ramirez, who is the current president of the council.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi phoned Ghali just last Thursday to thank him for all he has done for their nation and to wish him a speedy recovery. We’ll update you further as this story develops.
