Last May, abstinence advocate Bristol Palin stunned fans when she announced that she was pregnant with her second child out of wedlock. She made the announcement shortly after revealing that she was no longer engaged to Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer.
On December 23, Bristol gave birth to a little girl named Sailor Grace Palin, and she shared the news on Instagram along with the caption, “Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn’t be more proud of this little blessing.”
Now, however, things have gotten a lot more complicated…
According to Rawstory, Meyer has just filed a lawsuit against Bristol for child support as well as joint custody of Sailor, saying that he is the girl’s father. The lawsuit also demands that Meyer be allowed to list the baby girl as a dependent on his income tax returns in alternating years.
Bristol has earned as much as $262,000 as a public speaker on teen pregnancy.
After hearing about the lawsuit, Bristol’s mom Sarah Palin spoke out to slam Meyer, calling his lawsuit an attempt to “save face.”
“For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers, [sic]” the former vice-presidential nominee said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight. “He has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol’s pregnancy or the baby.”
Bristol also slammed Meyer in a statement of her own, given through a spokesman.
“My values are such that a real American hero doesn’t ask for child support,” she said.
