A Tomah Department of Veterans Affairs employee responsible for counseling inpatient female veterans in the PTSD and substance abuse units has been arrested after multiple sexual assault allegations were made against him.
According to Daily Caller, an internal public affairs memo confirmed these reports were true, but it did not say how many claims were made against the employee. His identity has also not yet been released.
The employee was reportedly likely a mental health peer support specialist who forced one woman to perform oral sex on him and exposed his penis to another. Now that word has spread throughout the facility, more victims are coming forward.
The employee is currently facing seven charges, although it is not yet known what they each are.
“This issue has not hit the press yet but we expect it to gain attention fairly soon,” Matthew Gowan, public affairs officer at the Tomah VA, told his employees in an email. He then included a statement from the acting director at the facility about what happened:
“Employees, there has been an unfortunate incident in our medical center,” the statement reads. “I wanted you to be aware in an effort to be transparent and foster trust. A Tomah VA Medical Center Mental Health Peer Support Specialist was arrested yesterday and booked into the Monroe County Jail. The employee faces seven charges and was arraigned in Monroe County Court this afternoon.”
It’s sickening that veterans who served our country bravely were then subjected to sexual abuse in the very facility that was meant to protect them. SHARE if you will be praying for all the victims in this case!
