Donald Trump is currently dominating the headlines as the GOP frontrunner in the 2016 presidential race, but he isn’t the only member of his family who is trying to make a difference in government.
According to The Political Insider, The Donald’s oldest sister Maryanne Trump Barry is a senior judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She was nominated as a Federal District Judge by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, and was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1999 by President Bill Clinton.
Trump has said that both him and Barry have similar political views, and that she has been very supportive during his campaign.
“She called me to say she’s very proud,” Trump said. “She said, ‘Just be yourself.’ Of course, I don’t know if that’s good advice, but she said, ‘Just be yourself and you do well, really well.’”
He went on to say that him and his sister share a similar view on gender equality.
“My sister has a very unique view on this, and — not so unique,” he said. “She feels that women are very smart and can be very tough and can be at least equal to men, and that women can fight very hard.”
“I have a sister who just doesn’t want to talk to reporters. Can you believe it?” Trump added. “I said: ‘Maybe they mixed us at birth. Maybe one of us got mixed up a little bit. Who knows.’”
As for Barry, she said that though she is known as a strong judge, she learned when she was a child that it’s never a good idea to compete with Donald.
