The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill was put on lockdown Wednesday morning amid reports of an “armed and dangerous person on or near campus.”
According to Daily Mail, the lockdown began just before 9am, and both students and staff were warned to stay inside with their windows and doors locked. A terrifying 30 minutes later, the alert was cancelled and the school was given the all-clear.
“UNC Chapel Hill Police are investigating the report of an armed individual near the campus NROTC Building and Venable Hall,” the university reported this morning. “The report is unconfirmed at this time, but the campus is asked to shelter in place.”
It is now known if the armed person has been apprehended at this time. We’ll update you further as this story develops.
