Last month, the country music world was devastated to learn that Joey Feek, of the duo Joey + Rory, was ceasing treatment for terminal cancer. Now in hospice care, Joey has made an announcement that nobody saw coming.
According to Q Political, Rory Feek has just announced that he and his wife will be releasing an album on Valentine’s Day. The album is called “Joey’s Album,” and the couple began recording it before her cancer diagnosis. Rory describes it as an album full of hymns that “capture the words and music of her childhood.”
The Feeks’ daughter Heidi will be providing background vocals for the album, and Rory said that it is “going to be special.” Here’s what Rory had to say about it on his blog:
“We recorded it in a studio in Nashville early in the summer – just after recovering from her first big surgery in Chicago. And then she did her vocals where she could… in hotel rooms, our house, wherever and whenever she felt up to singing.
In early October, we even did a TV taping of the songs in the concert hall at our farm in front of a live audience. Joey was weak and it was difficult for her, but she was determined. This record means so much to her. It is the songs that are the most important to her.
I think Joey wants to capture the words and music of her childhood. The music that she goes to when she needs comfort. The music that makes this beautiful, tragic, crazy life somehow make sense.”
We can’t wait to hear this beautiful album, and we’ll continue to keep Joey and her family in our prayers.
