Mindi Jenson is a single mother of four who works as a teacher at North Sanpete Middle School in Moroni, Utah. Unfortunately for her, she almost lost her job when one of her students stumbled upon her Instagram page and complained to the school administration…
According to Daily Mail, the photos show a bikini-clad Jenson competing in body-building competitions and wearing sexy workout gear at the gym. While the photos may seem harmless or even inspiring to many, the parents of Moroni, a town located in the middle of the bible-belt, were not happy about them.
“[Some school] kids found it and the parents were appalled by the pictures,” Jenson recounted. “They called it immodest. They called it pornographic. They called the pictures inappropriate, and these are my fitness, and show pictures in my sport, in my uniform in my bodybuilding sport.”
The school gave Jenson a choice: either take the photos down, set them to private, or be fired. The young mother was reluctant to comply with their request. Recently divorced, Jenson had taken up body building to deal with her depression, and she said she gets lots of comments on her Instagram page from women who are inspired by what she has done.
“I get comments and messages that it’s inspirational to them, and that these women like my story, and they’re following my story, and if I put it to private then it’s not going to reach these people that might need and understand me,” she told Fox 13.
“Why are my rights being taken away and not the child’s right? It’s between the parent and the child,” Jenson continued. “Put restrictions on your children. If you are not comfortable with seeing me in my fitness uniform on stage posing, then take that away from your kid. Don’t take it away from me.”
Jenson took a stand and told the principal that she was willing to risk her job by keeping her Instagram page up. The school board met and eventually decided to keep Jenson as one of their teachers anyway.
