Georgia police have released dashcam footage to clear the name of an officer who shot and killed a man during a traffic stop.
It all started when Officer Robert Smith pulled over an SUV for a tag issue in Emerson, which is located about 38 miles outside of Atlanta. At first, the interaction between Smith and the driver appeared to be both normal and pleasant.
“Let me go check everything and I’ll be right back with you,” Smith told the driver, according to Liveleak.
That’s when things went south. Smith found that the driver was 27-year-old Brent Brannon, who was wanted for several felony warrants for things like drug trafficking and gun charges.
“Step out of the car for me,” Smith can be seen saying before he grabbed his taser. Unfortunately, the taser didn’t work, and the situation continued to deteriorate.
“Drop the gun, shots fired shots fired,” shouted Smith.
Dozens of shots were fired, and by the end of the altercation, Brannon was dead. The footage shows a clearly shaken Smith pacing in front of his car, full of adrenaline.
“He pulled a gun on me,” Smith explained.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still investigating this case. Do you think this video clears Smith’s name? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
