Last week, a father in Montana showed up at a daycare center to pick up his children, but that’s when things got messy.
When 31-year-old Joseph Jackson showed up at Martha’s Mini Daycare in Helena to pick up his children, daycare owner Martha McClure could smell alcohol on his breath, so she refused to let the kids go with him. On top of that, Jackson did not have legal custody of the children, yet he stumbled into the daycare facility anyway to take them away.
Enraged that McClure was standing up to him, police say Jackson “struck her,” which led to a nasty brawl. McClure was finally able to lock Jackson out of the building, at which point he began throwing toys and tricycles at the windows. According to Mad World News, McClure finally came outside to get Jackson to leave, and that’s when the drunk father’s girlfriend hit her in the face with a shovel.
Jackson and his girlfriend fled the scene, leaving the daycare owner on the ground injured. Jackson was finally caught on Monday and booked into jail in $100,000 bond, but his girlfriend still remains at large.
“I protect these children as if they’re my own because when they hit the door in the morning at 6:30 they are mine until their mothers come for them,” McClure told KTMF-TV on Tuesday. “I’m responsible for their lives, their safety.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help McClure pay for her mounting medical bills. You can donate by going here.
