A former teacher was shocked to her very core on Wednesday when she was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison for her student-involved sex crimes.
Jennifer Caswell, 29, was a small town high school teacher before she was arrested this spring for having sex with a 15 year-old student. On June 1, she plead guilty to three counts of second-degree rape, two counts of enticing a child and one count of forcible sodomy. Because she plead guilty, Caswell and her attorneys were hoping for a more lenient sentence.
“I can’t say that we had ever considered it being that harsh,” said her lawyer David Cummins, according to News Ok. “It (the sentence) was somewhere in the neighborhood of at least twice what we anticipated.”
The Judge in the District of Harmon County sentenced her to 15 years in prison with five of them being suspended due to her sexual involvement with a 15 year old student.
She will not be eligible for parole for at least 8.5 years.
