At the Republican debate last Thursday, Megyn Kelly tried to save her struggling television show by going after Donald Trump in front of millions of people.
Unfortunately for her, this turned out to be a huge mistake.
The backlash against Kelly for her inexcusable behavior during the debate was swift. Thousands signed a petition demanding she be banned from ever hosting a debate again, and even her co-anchors at Fox started to turn on her. Things got worse for her when Trump himself fired back at her, and on Monday night’s episode of her show, she decided to respond to the attacks.
“Trump, who is the frontrunner, will not apologize,” Kelly told her viewers, according to The Gateway Pundit. “And I will certainly not apologize for good journalism.”
Despite the fact that conservatives everywhere have turned on her for her anti-Trump bias, Kelly has clearly decided to stand by what she did. This came just a day after she explained herself further in an interview with Fox News.
“I’m sure nerves were high as they were for all of the candidates,” Kelly said in an interview with Fox, according to Daily Mail. “He felt attacked – it wasn’t an attack, it was a fair question. But I get it. He’s in the arena and so am I. Its ok with me that there’s some consternation.
“I’m sure he’ll get over it and we’ll be fine and so will America,” she continued, before asking her fellow moderators Brett Baier and Chris Wallace not to defend her from Trump’s attacks.
“I’m a big girl, I can handle it,” she said. “My job is not to feel passionately about these candidates. My job is to go out there and ask probing questions that are hopefully smart and that help the people learn something about this person.”
“(Baier and Wallace) are both gentlemen and I didn’t want them to in any way feel they needed to somehow come to my rescue,” Kelly said. “I didn’t want them to feel if anybody started to attack me that I would be wondering where my compadres are.”
We used to think that Megyn Kelly was a class act, but after the debate, we can’t say we have much respect for her these days. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
