For the last few weeks, we have been reporting on Donald Trump, who found himself the target of liberal backlash after he criticized the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico during his campaign announcement.
While many didn’t take Trump seriously as a presidential candidate at the beginning, that all changed last week when polls revealed that Trump is currently the frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination. Despite his success, the GOP establishment has been on a mission to take Trump down because he refuses to let them control him.
While GOP candidates like Rick Perry and Lindsey Graham have been attacking Trump every chance they get, Ben Carson has just risked his career in the Republican party by speaking out in support of the business mogul. During an interview on Wednesday, Carson said that him and Trump hold very similar views, and that he thinks that Trump being in the race is actually good for him.
“He gets a lot more media attention,” retired neurosurgeon Carson told The Blaze. “The things that we talk about are very similar.”
Carson believes that as the race goes on, Trump’s supporters will start to gravitate towards other candidates, like himself and Carly Fiorina.
“As the political process plays out with various debates, people will get a chance to see people like me and like Carly,” he said. “They will begin to recognize that there are other people who have intelligence, initiative and aren’t part of the political class.”
While Carson may be wrong about Trump’s supporters eventually abandoning him, it’s refreshing to see a GOP candidate not be afraid to acknowledge that Trump is a worthy candidate.
