For the last few weeks, we have been reporting on Donald Trump, who found himself the target of liberal backlash after he criticized the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico during his campaign announcement.
While many didn’t take Trump seriously as a presidential candidate at the beginning, that all changed last week when polls revealed that Trump is currently the frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination.
On Wednesday, Trump dropped a bombshell when he finally filed his personal financial disclosure, revealing that he is worth a whopping $10 billion. One of the other claims made in the filing was that Trump was paid over $200 million for his 14 seasons on the NBC reality show The Apprentice.
MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell wasn’t buying this, and he accused Trump of the serious charge of lying on his financial disclosure records.
“It’s a lie, Joe. It’s a complete and total lie,” O’Donnell told Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, according to Conservative Tribune. “Let me explain something to you, Donald Trump didn’t even make a million dollars in his first year.”
O’Donnell cited a 2011 incident in which Trump and NBC publicly disagreed on how much he made on the show, declaring “Trump has been one of the lowest-paid people to have an hour-long show.”
Never one to let naysayers get away without a fight, Trump later called in to Morning Joe during a commercial break and assured Scarborough that he had not lied on the form. Scarborough claimed that Trump bet a year’s salary that he had not lied on his financial forms, even offering O’Donnell the money if he can prove that Trump was lying.
“Oh, that’s a challenge. I wonder if he’s going to do it,” said co-host Mika Brzezinski. “He believed in what he was saying, so we will see who will put their money where their mouth is.”
O’Donnell has not yet responded to the challenge, but considering how much Trump makes in a year, we’re sure he’s pretty motivated to prove that he’s lying now!
