For the last few weeks, we have been reporting on Donald Trump, who found himself the target of liberal backlash after he criticized the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico during his campaign announcement.
While many didn’t take Trump seriously as a presidential candidate at the beginning, that all changed last week when polls revealed that Trump is currently the frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination.
This news has forced Americans to take Trump seriously as a possible president. Unfortunately, Trump made a mistake this week that some say could bring his presidential hopes to an abrupt end.
According to NBC News, Trump accidentally tweeted an image on Tuesday that appeared to show Nazi soldiers superimposed on the American flag alongside Trump’s face. The tweet, which Trump has since blamed on an intern, also had the caption, “We need real leadership. We need results. Let’s put the U.S. back into business!”
“A young intern created and posted the image and did not see the very faded figures within the flag of the stock photo,” the Trump campaign said in a statement. “The intern apologized and immediately deleted the tweet.”
This was of course just a simple mistake, but liberals are already running with it. The mainstream media is now trying to portray Trump as a ruthless Nazi, and an alarming number of Americans are buying into it.
Trump will likely bounce back from this setback, but this should serve as a wakeup call for him. If he’s going to become president, he needs to be more careful about the material his staff posts online.
