For the last few days, we have been reporting on the controversy surrounding comments Donald Trump made about Mexico during his campaign announcement.
During his speech, the legendary businessman complained about the many criminals that are sneaking into the U.S. from Mexico, calling many of them “rapists.” Outraged, the Spanish-language television channel Univision announced that they would be boycotting Trump by refusing to broadcast his Miss Universe Pageant.
NBC quickly followed suit by ending their relationship with Trump on Monday.
Unfazed, Trump has stood by the comments he made, saying repeatedly that the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico has become problematic. On Tuesday, he filed a $500 million lawsuit against Univision for dropping the Miss Universe pageant.
Unfortunately, the backlash against Trump has continued despite his unwavering stance. On Wednesday morning, major department store chain Macy’s cut ties with Trump over the comments that he made.
“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico,” the retailer said in a statement, according to Mediaite. “We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation.”
“In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump,” the company added.
Though Macy’s has sold Trump’s menswear clothing line for the past eleven years, they submitted to liberal pressure when they received a petition with three-quarter of a million signatures demanding they part ways with Trump. Within hours of their announcement, Trump issued a response making it clear that he doesn’t give a hoot about Macy’s abandoning him:
“I have also continually stated that I am not beholden to anyone and this includes NBC and Macy’s. Clearly, NBC and Macy’s support illegal immigration, which is totally detrimental to the fabric of our once-great country.
“Both Macy’s and NBC totally caved at the first sight of potential difficulty with special interest groups who are nothing more than professional agitators, who are not looking out for the people they purport to represent, but only for themselves. It is people like this that are actually running our country because our leaders are weak and ineffective.”
While liberals are outraged about the comments Trump has made, conservatives are rallying around him. In fact, today it was revealed that Trump is currently polling in second place among GOP voters.
