Over the last few weeks, Obama and his minions have stepped up their game when it comes to trying to overturn the Second Amendment and ban guns in America.
Now, however, a new bill has been introduced that would stop these gun grabbers dead in their tracks.
Last Wednesday, Rep. Roy Bishop introduced the Lawful Purpose and Self-Defense Act of 2015, which would ban the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from using a reclassification loophole to ban various types of guns and ammunition.
“The ATF has exploited vagaries present in federal gun law to chip away at basic rights,” he told the House. “This legislation will slap the over-reaching hand of the federal government and restore some of the freedoms our grandparents enjoyed.”
A few months ago, the ATF made headlines when they tried to ban M855 ammunition by calling it “armor piercing.” They nearly made it happen, but Republicans were able to shoot down their plans with the help of the National Rifle Association.
Bishop’s bill is supported by at least 50 House Republicans, and it would make sure that the ATF wouldn’t be able to reclassify larger guns and rifles as “destructive devices” and ammunition as “armor piercing.” According to Conservative Tribune, it would also remove any restrictions on guns or ammunition that are compliant with the National Firearm Act, regardless of any “presidential executive orders and regulatory changes” that have been passed.
Essentially, it would strip Obama and his minions from using his last two years in office to make moves towards banning guns in America. Pro-gun groups like the NRA have been celebrating the bill since it was introduced.
“This important legislation would prevent arbitrary ammunition bans like the one attempted earlier this year by the Obama Administration,” Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, said in a statement.
It’s sad that a bill like this is necessary, since the right to bear arms is a birthright given to every American in our Constitution. However, we’re glad that the GOP is taking the steps to protect the God-given rights of Americans everywhere.
