Last Sunday, The Magnet Bottle Shop in Conyers, Georgia nearly became the site of a mass murder after Jeffrey Scott Pitts entered the liquor store and opened fire.
Surveillance footage shows Pitts, 36, enter the store and shoot at the clerks behind the counter, as well as at any customer who got in his way. Seeing what was happening, Todd C. Scott, 44, knew that he had to do something.
Just after the footage cut off, Scott pulled out his own gun and returned fire at Pitts. After seeing that someone was shooting back, Pitts fled back to his home, where he shot and wounded both of his parents. As police closed in on the home, Pitts shot at them with an AR-15, and the cops quickly killed him.
This week, Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett has praised Scott for his bravery and quick thinking.
“I believe that if Mr. Scott did not return fire at the suspect then more of those customers would have hit (sic) by a gun…” the sheriff said. “It didn’t appear that he cared who he shot or where he was shooting until someone was shooting back at him. So in my opinion (Scott) saved other lives in that store.”
Unfortunately, two of the victims inside the liquor store were killed during the shooting. However, were it not for Scott, there surely would have been many more casualties. Thank God he had a concealed weapon!
