For the last few weeks, we have been reporting on the mysterious closings of five Walmarts across the country.
2,200 Walmart employees at five stores in different cities were laid off last Tuesday and given just a few hours notice. Walmart claimed that the stores had to be closed due to plumbing issues, but many have questioned this explanation since all the stores were located in different parts of the country.
Since the Walmart closings, many other national chains have announced that they will also be closing many of their stores as a “Retail apocalypse” takes over the country. One of the chains that has been hit the hardest is McDonald’s, which recently announced that they would be closing 700 restaurants across America.
Many say that this drop in fast food sales is due to Americans turning to healthier options. In an effort to address this, McDonald’s has just announced that they will be introducing kale to some of their menu items.
According to the Associated Press, McDonald’s will be testing out two new breakfast bowls at their southern California, and one of them will contain kale. McDonald’s said in a statement that the kale will be included in a Turkey Sausage & Egg White bowl, which also has spinach and bruschetta.
This is a clear move to shake their junk food image, as kale is the latest ingredient being embraced by healthy eaters in the U.S.
The move may seem odd to some, however, considering McDonald’s recently released an ad in which they celebrated the Big Mac and mocked trendy, hippie-dippie ingredients like soy…and kale.
