A few weeks ago, Duck Dynasty’s Robertson family revealed that they would be supporting Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal in the 2016 presidential election. Now, reports have suggested that they may have done this for suspicious reasons, and they may be in trouble.
According to Bloomberg, Governor Jindal is currently trying to close a $1.6 billion budget hole by doing things like cutting $200 million from Louisiana State University, which as a result stated it may plan for insolvency.
Despite this, Jindal has not touched the $415,000 per episode that the Robertson family receives for Duck Dynasty, allowing them to keep their tax break.
“You’re talking about between $200 million and $250 million a year that goes out the door to TV and film producers to come here and shoot their pictures, in a state where money is scarce,” said Jan Moller, director of the Louisiana Budget Project, which advocates policies that benefit low- and moderate-income people. “It’s irresponsible to let this part of the budget continue running amok at a time when they’re talking about closing college campuses.”
These reports have people all across Louisiana outraged, and liberals across the country are accusing the Robertsons of using their endorsement to get tax breaks.
“Bobby is a great man, he’s a godly man,” Willie Robertson said when he endorsed Jindal. “If he chooses to go on, I know the values he has. I’m the kind of guy who really likes smart people… and that guy’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.”
“He’s got the values, he’s got the intelligence to do it,” he added.
Willie is so close to Jindal that there has been talk of him even running as his Vice President. Jindal fueled these rumors when he was specifically asked if Willie would be running with him.
“As a running mate? Sure, but as vice president—I assume that’s what you’re asking—not the other way around,” Jindal told the press. “He’s a great guy, I think he’d be a great running mate. It’d be a huge pay cut for him, so I’m not sure he’d be willing to do it.”
