A biological father and daughter in Oregon who are in an incestuous relationship have lost custody of their second baby just days after he was born. They previously lost custody of their older son, who has been plagued with genetic issues.
Eric Lee Gates, 49, and Chalena Mae Moody, 25, live as a couple in Springfield, Oregon and now have two children under two years of age. Their second son was taken away four days after his birth, and the couple quickly filed a request with an appeals court in an attempt to get him back from foster care. Their request was denied.
Back in March, Moody was sentenced to ten days in jail for the incest charge, but she got credit for time already served so she was free to go. According to Daily Mail, she was also sentenced to 18 months probation.
Gates, on the other hand, is currently serving a six month jail sentence after he violated his probation by moving back in with his daughter after he was convicted of incest in January. He has been ordered to pay the state restitution for the medical bills of his two children.
In addition to the two boys the father and daughter have together, a third died in utero.
The oldest child, born in 2013, suffers from “significant medical issues, including medical issues that are likely due to the close genetic relationship of his biological parents,” and it is likely the newborn does as well.
Moody was married to another man at the time of her second child’s birth, but she and Gates have admitted that both boys are theirs. She has also given birth to three other children, all of whom were put up for adoption.
Gates was not Moody’s custodial parent when she was a child, as he was serving multiple prison sentences. Authorities say they did not know they were father and daughter when a friend introduced them and they quickly began a relationship.
Incest is punishable by up to five years in jail, and since these two don’t seem like they’re stopping anytime soon, they could be headed that way!
