New revelations about the munchkins in the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz reveal that they were anything but innocent.
In recent years, it has been revealed that during filming, the actors who played the munchkins engaged in wild escapades of sex, drunkenness, and all around depravity. During filming, the cast and crew were shocked to find out that the little people were holding “dwarf sex parties” at the Culver Hotel, where they all lived during filming.
One stunned observer described the munchkins as “an unholy assembly of pimps, hookers and gamblers.”
Their wild behavior could perhaps be explained by the fact that most of them were dwarves who had spent their lives working in the circus. Life on the road had taught them the ways of debauchery, and they weren’t about to hold back.
Many of the dwarves were likely forced to resort to make money illegally in order to survive in Hollywood with their abysmal salaries on the film. Even Toto the dog made more money than the actors who played the munchkins.
Star Judy Garland was reportedly so fascinated with the wild lifestyle of the dwarves that she agreed to go on a date with dwarves.
“Fair enough, two broads for the price of one,” the little actor smugly replied.
By the end of filming, Garland had lost her patience with the dwarves, and in later years, she did not recall them so kindly.
“They were drunks,” Judy Garland later said flatly. “They got smashed every night, and the police used to scoop them up in butterfly nets.”
Despite their crazy behavior, those small actors can still be commented for being a part of one of the most treasured films of all time.
