August 5, 2014 Kabul, Afghanistan. Major General Harold Greene, Army, is the highest ranking U.S. Military officer killed in an active war zone since Vietnam. President Obama paid homage to the fallen two star General in a 56 second address in which he basically called him a patriot and went on to discuss when the mission in Afghanistan would end.
August 9-24, 2014, the first family was at Martha’s Vineyard on their annual summer vacation. It has been widely reported that the POTUS played 18 holes of golf almost every day they were there.
August 14, 2014 Major General Harold Greene is laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. One might expect the President, Vice President, or Secretary of State to be in attendance at such a funeral. Obama did not attend. His schedule for the day, on Martha’s Vineyard, was this:
Not only was the POTUS 30 minutes late to his one scheduled engagement on this day, but he failed to even mention Major General Harold Greene during his 8 minutes of remarks. He mentioned that the war would end in four months and discussed his Iraq strategy for roughly 4 minutes. The remainder of his remarks were targeted at Ferguson and the events surrounding the death of Michael Brown.
Michael Brown, thief, 18 year old ne’er-do-well gets 4 minutes of the President’s time on the day we laid to rest an American hero, Major General Harold Greene who received no minutes of the President’s time. Obama did, however, get his 18 holes in that day.
For the record, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel was in attendance at the General’s funeral. He met with the family and offered the condolences of a grateful nation. Other high ranking military officials were there and participated in full and complete military honors for this man who gave his life in service to his country. His position, however, was deserving of the highest honor that anyone could bestow on him and certainly more than that of a teenage thug.
