A high school math teacher is facing up to 14 years in prison after admitting to having sex with her 17 year-old student.
Erica Ginnetti, 34, is a married mother of three who taught math in the Lower Moreland Township School District in Pennsylvania before her arrest in January. She met her young victim back in May of 2013, when she chaperoned his high school prom. She approached him at the dance and invited him to work out with her at her gym, and the two quickly began communicating by text every day.
Over the next few months, Ginnetti texted the boy sexually explicit photos of herself posing in bikinis and thong underwear, as well of videos of her performing a sex act on herself.
In July of 2013, the pair met at a Starbucks before driving to a park and having sex in her car. She then drove the boy back to the coffee shop, telling him to never tell anyone what had happened.
Unfortunately for Ginnetti, the boy told his friends and began showing them the pictures she had sent him. The police quickly became involved, and the boy immediately told them what had happened. When confronted, Ginnetti confessed to cops that she had indeed had a sexual affair with the boy.
“I would say that she treated her relationship with this student as she would have treated a relationship with an adult with whom she was involved,” Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said at the time of Ginnetti’s arrest.
Ginnetti was released on $50,000 bail in January on the condition that she not have unsupervised contact with minors other than her three children, aged 8, 11, and 14, respectively.
On Tuesday, Ginnetti plead guilty to institutional sexual assault and disseminating sexually explicit materials to a minor. The maximum sentence she could face is seven to fourteen years in prison.
