Michael Brown protesters stormed Seattle’s Westlake Mall on Black Friday, causing quite a scene and effectively shutting down a children’s choir which was there to sing Christmas carols. The annual tree lighting ceremony was thwarted by the race rioters, who swarmed the event, shouting, “Shut it down! Shut it down!”
“I feel really bad for a group of children from the 5th Avenue Theater,” said journalist Mark Wright. “They came tonight, excited to sing. When the protesters overtook the balcony, the children were absolutely terrified.” Adults helped usher the children to safety, many of them in tears at that point, while police worked to remove the protesters, who shouted the notorious Michael Brown war cry, “No Justice, No Peace.”
The race rioters told reporters that they ruined the children’s performance because “they knew they’d get an audience.” Wright remarked, “As a journalist, I’m absolutely in favor of the right to free speech. This was not free speech tonight. The protesters appear to simply want to disrupt, and in doing so, traumatized some beautiful young kids.”
The children, ages 7 to 10, are some of the most regrettable targets we have seen in the wake of the race riots which have overtaken the country. They will likely be very traumatized by the violence of the protesters and were visibly confused by their chants of “hands up, don’t shoot.” Police arrested several of the protesters who overtook the Westlake Mall on Friday.
The tree lighting ceremony moved forward, however the mall was forced to close four hours early on the busiest shopping day of the year, inconveniencing many who had come to take advantage of Black Friday deals. “While I understand the hurt and frustration that our city has experienced in the past days, this is a city that respects the rule of law,” Seattle Mayor Ed Murray wrote in a statement. “I support the First Amendment rights of protesters, but violence against property or police officers will not be tolerated in our city.” Murray visited with the children after their performance was hijacked.
Marissa Johnson, leader of the Seattle race rioters, said, “America goes where their pocketbook goes, so today we’re blocking Black Friday. We want you to be uncomfortable shopping.” Another protester commented, “There’s no business as usual. There’s no Christmas for Mike Brown’s family.”
