Friday, November 14, Washington D.C. A Muslim group is invited to hold Friday prayers in the National Cathedral for the very first time. A woman took it upon herself to renounce the decision and interrupted the service pointing to the cross and declaring her faith in Jesus.
Ironically, in many countries dominated by Islam, one can be jailed or even stoned for wearing a crucifix or making the symbol of the cross. The very image is supposedly “offensive” to Muslims. Why then would Muslims want to hold prayers in a Christian cathedral?
It could be argued that jihad takes many forms. Some overt, as in ISIS, and others far more subtle. Overtaking a Christian church, even for a day, however, may fit the definition and will certainly be celebrated by Muslims as a victory.

Perhaps the most disconcerting part of the story is that the Episcopal clergy in charge of the “National House of Prayer” invited the group in. In fact, a spokesman for the National Cathedral indicated other groups of various faiths are being invited to utilize the building. It appears that clergy from the Cathedral pray to Allah. The priest opening the service with a word of welcome indicated, “we all pray to the same God….His desire for our world is…peace.”
The protestor in question resisted one man as she spoke, but was finally escorted out by two gentlemen. Before she left she said, “We have built, and allowed you here in mosques across this country. Why can’t you worship in your mosque, and leave our churches alone?”
Construction on the National Cathedral began in 1907, but was not considered complete until 1990. Congress has designated the site the “National House of Prayer” and it has hosted a number of national prayer vigils.
Billy Graham’s son, Rev. Franklin Graham posted to facebook:
“Tomorrow, the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.–one of the most prominent Episcopal churches in America–will host a Muslim prayer service to Allah,” Graham said in the statement. “It’s sad to see a church open its doors to the worship of anything other than the One True God of the Bible who sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth to save us from our sins.”
“Jesus was clear when He said, “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).”
Christians across the nation are displeased with the event. One tweet to a local new agency sums up the general feeling of Christians nationwide: “I just cannot understand this. Would they allow a Christian prayer service in a mosque?”
The South African Ambassador, Ebrohim Rasool, who gave the sermon, stated: “This is a dramatic moment in the world and in Muslim-Christian relations.”
This is one more instance where taxpayers are funding one thing and receiving another. The National Cathedral is the National House of Prayer to the Judeo-Christian God. No good Muslim, Jew, or Christian thinks Allah is the same God. It may be necessary for the Priest who opened services to re-visit her theology as she spoke in error.
No one, Christian or otherwise, is seeking a national religion. Declaring one religion or God, for that matter, is blatantly unconstitutional. All Christians want in this case is to not have houses of worship defiled by those who worship a different God. Muslims want the same protections for their mosques.
What’s next? Satanists, Wiccans, Buddhists? All are legal religions that have every right to exist in this country whose adherents are free to worship…just not in a Christian church.
