Dr. Ben Carson became the first Republican to announce his bid for the White House in 2016, with a 40-minute ad which aired in 22 states over the weekend. Now, Americans are learning more about the retired neurosurgeon, who has never held a political office in the past. Footage from 2013 has surfaced, which shows an interview between Carson and Glenn Beck, in which the 2016 hopeful makes some gun control statements which have raised the eyebrows of Second Amendment supporters.
“There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons,” said Carson. But he followed this up with his opinion that your individual right to own semi-automatic weapons “depends on where you live.”
“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated. However, he feels that “if you live out in the country somewhere by yourself,” there is “no problem” with you owning semi-automatic weapons.
Carson has been hailed as a “conservative hero” ever since he stood up to Obama by criticizing Obamacare, political correctness, and the President’s tax policy at the National Prayer Breakfast. His views on gun control may clash with a large portion of the conservative community, though. Would this information affect your support of Ben Carson for President? Tell us in the comments section.
