Obamacare Architect: ACA Passed Thanks to “Stupidity of the American Voter”

Jonathan Gruber, the MIT health economist who helped craft parts of the Affordable Care Act, has revealed that Obama’s health care reform relied heavily on the “stupidity of the American voter” to get passed, much the same way Democrats are elected to government office. At the Annual Health Economists’ Conference in 2013, Gruber revealed:

“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure [the Congressional Budget Office] did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. OK, so it’s written to do that. In terms of risk-rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in – you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed. Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical for the thing to pass. Look, I wish … we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not.”

This is irrefutable proof that Obama lied to get the ACA passed. Gruber acknowledged in this newly-surfaced footage that if the President had been forthcoming about his signature legislation, it would have never come to fruition. Of course, Republicans realized this all along, which is why not a single GOP leader voted to pass Obamacare. If the Republicans had controlled the House a few years back, we would not be faced with the problems the Affordable Care Act has wrought on the health care system.
