The Republicans have taken control of both the house and the senate in a landslide midterm election on Tuesday night.
At this time, the Republicans have the overwhelming majority in the House of Representatives with 214 seats compared to the Democrat’s 121.
The Republicans have also taken control of the Senate with 52 seats. The Democrats only have 45, so they cannot hope to obtain the majority. This marks the first time in eight years that Republicans have had control of the Senate.
The Republicans won control of the Senate when Joni Ernst was announced the victor in Iowa just seconds ago. The win for conservatives will no doubt be a major blow to Obama, as it will greatly affect his political agenda in the last two years of his presidency.
We will update this story as it develops.
