While Alfie Patten made headlines for allegedly becoming Britain’s youngest father, we didn’t hear much about the rest of his family. As it turns out, history has been repeating itself. Patten’s sister, Jade, also had a baby when she was just 13-years-old.
Alfie Patten, 13, with girlfriend Chantelle Steadman, 15, and baby Maisie.
Alfie’s half-sister, Nicole, blames their father for the messes the family has gotten into. Dennis, the family patriarch, made an indelible mark on his children when he left their mother for a 19-year-old. Nicole explained:
“I blame my dad for Alfie getting Chantelle pregnant. If it wasn’t for him, Alfie wouldn’t be in this situation. When dad left it tore the family to pieces. Alfie’s mum took her eyes off the ball – And Alfie looked for comfort somewhere else to take his mind off things.”
Dennis claims his son “didn’t know what he was doing and of the complications that could come,” but clearly, the ball was dropped when it came to educating Alfie regarding the birds and the bees – especially after the family had already been through one teenaged pregnancy.
Perhaps what is most surprising about this whole disconcerting narrative is the fact that social services has not stepped in; none of these children are being properly cared for. It was revealed that Chantelle Steadman, Alfie’s girlfriend who became pregnant at 14, was regularly allowed to have boys spend the night in her room, so it’s really no wonder she ended up a teen mom.
Steadman’s mother, Penny, regularly allowed her daughter to spend the night with different boys.
