Last week, the nation was shocked when a hatchet-wielding man brutally attacked four NYPD Officers in a subway station. Now, the attacker is being martyred by a black panther group, who says that he executed the attack as retribution for slavery.

Zale Thompson was a Muslim extremist who attending a few meetings of his local New Black Panther Party before he attacked the officers with his hatchet. The chapter’s leader, Frank Sha Francois, said the group supports the now deceased Thompson’s reasons for attacking the police.

“I don’t condone violence, but something needs to be done,” Francois said. “We need to have some type of deterrent and real oversight to deter the police from violating the laws and to know they are not above the laws.”

“It probably won’t be the last [attack on police] because you have a lot of frustrated people out here,” he added in a veiled threat.

Though he describes Thompson as “a crusader” Francois admitted that he does not support his methods.

“I tell people that to go up against law enforcement in this country is suicide,” he said. “Our main way to deal with it is to rally and boycotting.”

Family and friends of Thompson have described him as a jihadist sympathizer who hated white people and cops. He struck Officer Kenneth Healey in the head and Officer Joseph Meeker in the arm before he was fatally shot by their fellow Officers.

Meeker and Healey are still recovering from their injuries, with the latter’s being far more severe.

“[Healey’s] still in critical but stable condition, but his recovery’s been dramatic,” Deputy Inspector John Cappelmann said. “He’s speaking. He’s doing limited physical therapy. He’s doing great.”

What do you think of the support Thompson is receiving from his peers? Sound off in the comments below!
