Four Memphis cops have been suspended with pay after a disturbing video of them was released.
The police officers were trying to arrest Jo Hampton for trespassing when he suddenly fled them on foot. Hampton hid in a port-a-potty in a desperate attempt to call his girlfriend, but what happened next was shocking.
The cops surrounded the port-a-potty and proceeded to tip it over, with Hampton still inside.
“I could hear them when they pulled up, so I knew that they were behind the porta potty… I heard them say on three. Three. And it went over…” Hampton said of the incident.
Afterwards, the video shows Hampton get out of the port-a-potty and an officer kick him from behind.
The officers involved have been identified as Roosevelt Shaw, Jr., Timothy Taylor, Manuel Saldana, and Taylor Ackerman. All four have been investigated for some sort of police abuse in the past. Saldana was even investigated for killing a suspect.
Hampton says he suffered a back injury during the incident, and now he’s calling for the cops to be punished.
“Excessive force was used, very much so… I believe they tried to humiliate me, because they knew that water and feces and pee was in there,” he said. “I believe they did that on purpose.”
What do you think? Did the cops do the right thing, or do they deserve to be punished? Sound off in the comments below!
