Teacher’s Association: Math Is “The Domain Of Old, White Men”

The Left is now inserting their race-baiting agenda into the classroom. Teach for America groups across the country have committed themselves to what they call “culturally responsive teaching,” because according to their website, “math has traditionally been seen as the domain of old, White men.”

Teach for America maintains that many students have a hard time identifying with math because they can’t relate to it. They suggest equating math problems to real life experiences, such as “Home Buying While Brown or Black.” Other lesson plans include “Sweatshop Accounting,” “Racism and Stop and Frisk,” “When Equal Isn’t Fair,” and “The Square Root of a Fair Share.” It sounds like a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch, but I assure you, it’s not.

Of course, any logical person would recognize that the reason students can’t relate to math is because it’s not a feeling, emotion, or experience. Those are the things that we, as humans, identify with. If numbers on a chalkboard don’t rouse a deeply emotional response from you, you’re not abnormal or in need of a racist curriculum change.

Teach for America’s website includes stories to drive home the point that we need to rewrite the way we teach math to our students. One such story tells the ridiculous tale of why the equation 2+2=4 is “naive”. Check out the absurdity:

… a European explorer agrees to trade an African shepherd two sticks of tobacco in exchange for one sheep. When he offers four sticks of tobacco in exchange for two sheep, however, the shepherd declines; the explorer later tells this story as evidence of the shepherd’s inability to comprehend simple mathematical reasoning and as “proof” of intellectual inferiority on the African subcontinent. But, if sheep are not standardized units, as there is no reason to believe them to be, then doesn’t it make sense that the second sheep might be worth far more than the first? And then doesn’t our premise of 2 + 2 = 4 look awfully naive?

American students are already far behind in the rankings of education among first world countries. Can you imagine if we began to teach them that 2+2 does not in fact equal 4?

This is the nonsense liberals are doing their best to confuse American children with.

Do you think racial issues should be left out of the classroom? Sound off in the comments section!
