Shocking surveillance footage shows a mob of seven thugs attacking a pair of brothers waiting for the next train to arrive at a Chicago station.
Four men and three 15-year-olds – two boys and one girl – approached the brothers and asked them to flash gang signs. The brothers, aged 26 and 17, refused because they are not members of a gang.
In response, 18-year-old Mario Elvira pulled out a machete and proceeded to hack away at the 26-year-old victim’s head and neck until the next train arrived. This then caused the mob to disperse in an attempt to avoid being caught in the act.
The criminals weren’t the sharpest of specimens, as they neglected to look around for security cameras before enacting their gruesome assault. The CCTV footage from the attack is hard to watch.
The assault took place in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood shortly after midnight on Monday. Police have since arrested all of the seven delinquents responsible for the crime, which may have been the result of Elvira’s initiation into a local gang.
The Daily Mail reported:
The 26-year-old victim was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
He suffered a deep gash to the head, which required 30 stitches. His 17-year-old brother was not injured in the attack.
Police caught the group, all from the North side of Chicago, shortly after the attack.
Elvira, 23-year-old Jean Salvatierra, 19-year-old Kevin Ramierz and 20-year-old Kevar Preston were charged with robbery, aggregative battery and trespassing.
One of the 15-year-old boys was charged with aggravated assault and trespassing. The two other 15-year-olds, a boy and a girl, face only trespassing charges.
Police have not released the names of the three teenagers.
The four adults are being held on bails between $250,000 and $450,000. They are next due in court on 15 September.
