Nearly two weeks after Joan Rivers’ fatal surgery, it has been revealed what exactly went wrong. According to The Daily Mail, Joan’s own doctor performed a biopsy on the 81 year-old comedienne after noticing something strange during a routine endoscopy.
The clinic did not normally perform biopsies, and the procedure caused Joan’s vocal cords to spasm and her airways to be blocked.
Sources say that if the biopsy had been performed in a hospital, Joan might be alive today.
The doctor decided to perform the biopsy after noticing something odd during the routine surgery. A source says that the clinic is just as much at fault as the doctor is because they allowed him to do the biopsy on the spot.
“He asked and they let him,” the source said. “A huge no-no.”
“A biopsy like that should only be done in a hospital setting. If she had been in the hospital when it happened, she might have been ok.”
Joan had only agreed to undergo a routine endoscopy at the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She never agreed to have the biopsy that ended up killing her.
The identity of the doctor who performed the deadly procedure has not yet been revealed.
Joan’s daughter, Melissa, does not appear to have made the decision of whether or not she’ll sue the clinic, but it seems like she has a pretty good case!
