Legendary comedienne Joan Rivers died on Thursday at the age of 81. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, announced the tragic news on Thursday afternoon, according to The Blaze.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” Melissa said in a statement. “She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends.”
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
Rivers was undergoing a routine surgery on her vocal cords on August 28 when she stopped breathing. She suffered a cardiac and respiratory arrest and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where Doctor’s placed her into a medically induced coma.
She was taken out of Intensive Care yesterday and moved to a private suite, where she passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
