17-year-old Gabriel Geata stands accused of raping and murdering 6-year-old Jenise Wright. Wright’s body was found on August 7, submerged in a muddy bog in the woods near her Bremerton, Washington home. Social media posts prior to the slaying show Geata had been contemplating murder for some time.
Wright’s parents first reported her missing on August 3, after her disappearance one day prior. A team of hundreds of volunteer searchers along with law enforcement attempted to find her, before her lifeless body was eventually found.
The little girl’s father was originally suspected of the heinous crime, as he had previously been convicted of molestation charges. His three older children have been removed from his care and he is currently attempting to win back custody of them. “How can you put a puzzle back together if you don’t have all the pieces?” he asked.
Geata was arrested after a sample of his DNA was matched to traces found on the 6-year-old girl. Blood-stained, muddy clothes were also found in his bedroom. The hometown wrestling team champ has admitted that he was the only person involved in killing his young neighbor. He is currently being held on $1 million bail. Kitsap County prosecutor Kelly Montgomery asked for the bail amount “based on the heinous nature of the crime that is alleged.”
