As we reported yesterday, a mall security guard was placed in a threatening situation in which he opted to use non-lethal force to diffuse the situation. After video was released of the harrowing footage however, it seems that the publicity was just too much for the mall to handle and they have since announced his firing.
Darien Long used to work at the Atlanta Metro Mall where he aimed to clean up the area that was formerly a hot spot for criminal activity. Despite there being a decrease in amount of police responses on account of Long’s hard work and diligence, he was still let go after the video of the incident went viral.
It all began when Long was confronted by an extremely obnoxious set of women whose children were out of control. After asking that they simply quiet their children, the offended entitlists jumped down Long’s throat and became immediately invasive. Using profoundly offensive language, certainly not suitable for the 5-or-so children in the immediate area, the women launched an all out verbal assault and tried, on several occasions, to turn it physical.
After telling the women to stay out of the mall, one of the freeloading mothers decided to try and press her luck, came into the mall and proceeded to assault Long despite his many warnings. After long, Long had no choice but to defend himself and deployed the use of his taser sending the obnoxious woman down to the ground – a treatment she well deserved.
After a brief scuffle with the woman’s baby daddy, the video cuts out, where Long has since stated that the mall is firing him, not because of his actions, but because of the publicity of the video. However, Long has also further clarified that the “official” reason he lost his job was because, “revenues were down due to two vendors leaving.”
Take a peek at the video above and let us know – was his use of force justified? Feel free to let us know if Long should have been fired by leaving us a comment below.
