A new toy on the market is causing quite a stir with parents. The You & Me Mommy Change My Diaper doll has realistic male genitalia. That’s right, your daughter’s new baby doll may come complete with a penis and testicles.
As reported by MailOnline:
A new doll, which depicts an anatomically correct baby boy complete with penis and testicles, has divided Australian parents with some claiming it is inappropriate.
The You & Me Mommy Change My Diaper doll, sold by Toys “R” Us, makes slurping sounds when he is fed through his bottle and cries when he wets his nappy, only stopping when he is changed.
But it is the realistic depiction of his genitals that has parents up in arms and it seems that parents are divided roughly along gendered lines, with fathers strongly objecting to the doll, while mothers have no problem with it.
Interestingly enough, most of the outrage over this new toy is coming from fathers. Although, I suppose it makes sense, as they are most likely appalled at their sweet little daughters learning about male genitalia at such a young age. That’s understandable.
Mothers, on the other hand, don’t seem to have much of an issue with the doll. Anita Good is one such woman. Her husband isn’t on board with the doll, though. She commented on an online parenting forum:
“I just showed my partner he said no way [our daughter] doesn’t need to know about boys until she is 30.”
Here’s the bottom line: Sexuality has no place in childhood, period. Whether it be an explicit movie or a doll with a penis, there is a time for young people to learn about anatomy and become familiar with sex, and it’s not when they’re 2-years-old.
