A Facebook page called ‘530 Fatties’ was created for California residents who get a kick out of fat-shaming fellow locals. Photos of overweight Californians who live in the 530 area code were posted to the page, which was taken down Monday after enough people voiced their outrage.
The administrator of the ‘530 Fatties’ page is not known at this time. The photos posted to the page appeared to be taken in public, without the knowledge of the subject. None of the overweight Californians targeted gave their permission for their photos to be used.
18-year-old Jessi Lynn Howell was one of the people who was horrified to find her photo on the ‘530 Fatties’ Facebook page. She told CNN:
“It’s really hurtful and it’s really embarrassing. They post people’s pictures without their permission – that’s hurtful. I know it’s probably someone from around here and whoever it is, they need to stop. Cyberbullying – bullying period – needs to stop. So I’m going to be that voice today for those people who don’t have that voice.”
