19-year-old Kendall Jones has a passion for exotic trophy hunting in Africa and enjoys sharing her pictures on Facebook. The cheerleader and aspiring television star has been going on safari trips to Zimbabwe and South Africa ever since she was just 13, and created a fan page in which she posts pictures of herself with her kills that has nearly 18,000 followers which has the animal rights crowd in a tizzy.
Jones says she’s a conservationist who’s passionate about helping control animal populations. She also claims to be helping farmer afford their monthly vet and feed bills, which can be well over $15,000 a month, by paying them to hunt on their land.
In addition to helping the farmers, Jones says that she donates the meat from her kills to the local people so it doesn’t go to waste.
According to National Geographic, “In the 23 African countries that allow sport hunting, 18,500 tourists pay over $200 million a year to hunt lions, leopards, elephants, warthogs, water buffalo, impala, and rhinos.” This financial incentive helps to conserve wildlife by encouraging people to maintain the land that the animals live on.
Animal rights activists don’t seem to care too much about the positive aspects of what she does, however. Most of the comments on her Facebook page, where she posts hunting memes along with pictures of her kills, say things like “You are absolute scum. I hope a gorgeous African animal takes its own revenge on you one day for all the beautiful souls you have shot.”
They’ve also started a Change.org petition to have her Facebook page removed which has over 4,000 signatures.
Jones hasn’t let the negative press stop her though, and according to her Facebook page has signed a development deal for a show on the Sportsman Channel.
Do you agree with what she does or should trophy hunting be banned?
