A Kentucky town is mourning the loss of a Marine after he was gunned down during a robbery last week after celebrating his wife’s birthday at a local bar.
Police are hunting for two men who shot and killed 26-year-old Jonathan Price, and shot his wife Megan in the leg as they left the Austin City Saloon in Lexington on June 21.
The couple was approached by two people, one of which had a gun, who demanded money from them. However what happened that led to the shooting is unknown at this time.
According to police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts, one of the suspects is described as a male with shoulder-length dreadlocks and wearing a white t-shirt. He also had a silver handgun, which was used in the shooting. There’s no description for the second suspect at this time.
Price was a Marine who attended Southland Christian Church regularly, and his wife is a hairstylist at Posh Salon and Spa.
The manager of the salon, Tonya Taylor, said that the couple and their friends had gone to the saloon to celebrate Megan’s birthday.
They couple was also about to celebrate their first wedding anniversary together.
Debbie Price, the victim’s mother, remembered her son for the great man that he was.
“I don’t think I could ever have had a better son,” she told the Herald Leader. “He was such a blessing.”
One of Price’s fellow Marines, Alex Alford, said that Price made him aspire to be a better man.
“He just seemed genuinely happy and I’m like, well maybe if I act more like him, then maybe I’ll have a happier life. So, he really helped me,” Alford said.
“We were a group of 4 guys and we kind of did everything together. Were responsible for each other, hang out together and stuff like that.
“If he knew that you needed him he would be there and he’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was a real genuine all-American down to earth guy.”
The funeral services for Price were held last week.
Police haven’t made any arrests in the robbery and have only released vague descriptions of the assailants. They’re now pleading to the public for help in identifying them.
A Go Fund Me campaign that was set up by friends of the prices to help his grieving widow cover medical and other bills has already received $23,5000 in donations, and they’re asking anybody who can to contribute.
