A registered sex offender in North Carolina ran a home day care center as a front for a child pornography production operation, according to authorities.

Bailey Joe Mills ran the unlicensed child care facility out of his home in Harnett County, which he used to attract young girls. He would then offer them money to have sex with men that he found on social media.

Mills has three felony convictions that involve sexual activity with a minor, and in January was charged with raping a 13-year-old girl. In 1997 he was convicted for taking indecent liberties with a minor, in 2000 he was convicted for the sexual assault of a child, and in 2011 he was convicted of felony indecent liberties with a child that forbid him from being around children under the age of 13 without another adult present. He also had to undergo intense psychological treatment and had a curfew enforced.

According to authorities, there were at least 10 victims in the pornography operation. They believe it has been occurring since early 2013, however it wasn’t discovered until Mills was arrested in January and investigators combed through his cell phone and computer.

Detective Brad Byrd told WRAL that the evidence he saw was “very disturbing.”

“As I go through all the evidence, I see everything that’s happened to these children,’ he said. ‘It’s heartbreaking.”

Along with Mills, his wife 34-year-old Elizabeth Holland Mills, and three other people were arrested in relation to the operation.

Mills is being held on $500,000 bond at the Harnett County Jail and his first court appearance is scheduled for June 28.
