As everyone around the country keeps getting distracted by the many scandals plaguing this administration, Senate Democrats have been launching an assault on our freedoms while using the distractions as political cover.
If the Democrats get their way, Senate Resolution 19 will fundamentally change the First Amendment and allow for certain political speech to be censored by the government, a move they say is necessary in order to limit political influence on elections.
The proposed constitutional amendment would allow Congress to limit fundraising and spending on elections and also independent political activity. Of course such a measure wouldn’t be complete without shady behavior from the Democrats, so they put a carve-out within it that exempts certain media outlets. Keep in mind that the media pretty much is on the left side of the aisle.
Ted Cruz pointed out the flaws within the bill, and said that while the New York Times would be protected it doesn’t say the same about freedom of speech.
“It doesn’t say the same thing about religious liberty; what it says it that politicians in Washington have unlimited constitutional authority to muzzle each and every one of you if you’re saying things the government finds inconvenient.”
According to reports the bill has the support of 41 Senate Democrats, including Harry Reid who has waged a personal war on the Koch brothers for their political contributions, even though they too are Americans who are simply engaging in the political process.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said to the Senate Judiciary Committee that “Benjamin Franklin noted that ‘whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.’ The First Amendment is the constitutional guarantee of that freedom, and it has never been amended.”
Republican Chuck Grassley also laid out the implications of such a proposal before the committee, saying:
“The proposed constitutional amendment would enable government to limit funds contributed to candidates and funds spent by or in support of candidates. That would give the government the ability to limit speech. The amendment would allow the government to set the limit at zero. There could be no contributions. There could be no election spending. There could be no public debate on who should be elected. Incumbents would find that outcome to be acceptable. They would know that no challenger could run an effective campaign against them. Rationing of speech at low limits would produce similar results.”
It should come as no surprise that the Democrats are up to such shady behavior. After all, if it weren’t for fraud and corruption they wouldn’t win elections and they wouldn’t stand a chance at holding office.
Perhaps the most troubling aspect of this is that while Reid demonizes the Koch brothers for their contributions, liberal donors give hundreds of millions to Democrat candidates and completely ignore billionaire George Soros, who’s no different than either Koch brother.
Then again, Democrats are the definition of hypocrisy, it’s just waking up the rest of the nation so they figure it out.
