Hamas has long been considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. government and as such our laws prohibit providing them any funding. This dates been to 2006 when the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush.
Additionally, a recent appropriations bill reinforced the law, restricting any aid from going “to Hamas or any entity effectively controlled by Hamas, any power-sharing government of which Hamas is a member, or that results from an agreement with Hamas and over which Hamas exercises undue influence.”
However once again the Obama Administration is going to buck the law.
During a press conference on Monday, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that they approve of Palestine’s new government and “Based on what we know, we intent to work with this government.”
She did include a caveat, and said “we’ll be watching closely to ensure that it upholds the principles that President Abbas reiterated today.”
A journalist asked if her this announcement meant that the U.S. will continue to provide funding to the Palestinian government, Psaki told reporters that “It does. But we will continue to evaluate the composition and policies of the new government and calibrate our approach accordingly.”
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Obama is yet again supporting an anti-Israel terrorist organization considering the sympathy he’s had for them in the past. The question is when will Congress grow a spine and do something about it?
Remember, these are the same people that launch rockets into Israel for fun and teach their children to “kill the Jews,” so should we really be sending them money? Let us know with a comment!
