A Louisiana teacher and track coach has been arrested for having a “sexual encounter” with a student and intentionally exposing him to the AIDS virus.
On Friday, May 9, Terrebonne Parish Sheriffs received a complaint that Derrick Nesby, 37, had been sexually involved with a 16-year-old male student at H.L. Bourgeois High School. Nesby was initially release by detectives after questioning him about the accusations.
However the track coach was later arrested on May 28 when he returned to the school to pick up his personal belongings. He was employed at the school for a year prior and was fired after the accusations surfaced.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Chief of Detectives Malcolm Wolfe said “We can establish the fact that there was an encounter that happened.”
“We continued our investigation where we established more evidence that something did happen, and at that point we got a warrant for his arrest.”
The New Orleans native was booked into Terrebone Parish Jail on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and one count of intentional exposure to AIDS, both are felonies. His original bond was set at $500,000 however the judge increased it to $1 million after learning of the additional charge of intentional exposure to AIDS.
